Madrid, October 15, 2019.- The presidents of the General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists, Jesús Aguilar and of the Spanish Association of Biosimilars, Biosim, Joaquín Rodrigo, have signed a collaboration agreement whereby both entities undertake to develop actions that promote the professional work of pharmacists in the dispensing of these drugs, for the sake of adequate care of the population. In this sense, they will organize activities that promote better use and adherence to prescribed treatments and the accessibility of these medicines to patients.
The president of the General Council of Pharmacists, Jesús Aguilar, has highly valued the agreement reached by both entities "which will allow pharmacists and society to advance knowledge of these medicines, as well as favor the development of Professional Pharmaceutical Assistance Services from community pharmacies that favor the proper use of these by patients”.
However, Aguilar has regretted that in Spain most of these medicines continue to be dispensed under the National Health System only in hospitals, and has insisted that "they have to be dispensed where due to their technical-sanitary characteristics it should be done, for the benefit of of the patient”. Reason for which he has recalled that they are transferring proposals to the Administration so that "provided that their conditions of use allow it, they are dispensed in the community pharmacy, thus improving the accessibility of patients to these drugs."
The president of Biosim, Joaquín Rodrigo, for his part, declared that this agreement materializes the already existing and fruitful collaboration between the Council and BioSim. The cooperation between both entities has already materialized in the publication of the Biosimilars Guide for Pharmacists and the collaboration of BioSim in a course on biological medicines. In further progress, the signing of this agreement represents a further step for BioSim in the training of pharmacists in biosimilar medicines, which will undoubtedly improve their skills in handling these drugs and, therefore, pharmaceutical care for patients. patient.
The agreement signed today by Biosim and the General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists, with an initial duration of two years, establishes a general framework from which specific actions will be developed in areas such as training and information for pharmaceutical professionals, as well as programs and/or health campaigns to promote knowledge of biological medicines, particularly biosimilar medicines, and others that are considered of interest that promote better use and adherence to prescribed treatments and the accessibility of these medicines to patients.
